The Government of India, during the 1950s, introduced the Craftsmen Training Scheme, under which a series of government-managed Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and privately-run Industrial Training Centers (ITCs) were set up across the varied Indian states. The objective was to develop a pool of skilled manpower resources for meeting the labor requirements of the country’s varied industries.

The ITIs and ITCs are deemed as post-secondary schools; and are governed by the Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Union Government of India. Presently, in India, there are more than 14,000 vocational training centers that include over 2000 ITIs and over 12000 ITCs.

The management affairs of the technical training centers are overseen by the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) that works at the National level; at the state level, the SCVT works as per the NCVT’s guidelines.

El objetivo era desarrollar un conjunto de recursos de mano de obra calificada para cumplir con los requisitos laborales de las diversas industrias del país.

Las ITI y las ITC se consideran escuelas postsecundarias; y se rigen por la Dirección General de Empleo y Capacitación (DGET), el Ministerio de Desarrollo de Habilidades y Emprendimiento, el Gobierno de la Unión de la India. Actualmente, en la India, hay más de 14,000 centros de formación profesional que incluyen más de 2000 ITI y más de 12000 ITC.

Los asuntos de gestión de los centros de capacitación técnica son supervisados ​​por el Consejo Nacional de Formación Profesional (NCVT) que funciona a nivel nacional; a nivel estatal, el SCVT funciona de acuerdo con las pautas de la NCVT.
